Advanced Chemistry Development (ACD) is proud to announce their donation of campus-wide licenses of the commercial version of ACD/ChemSketch to academic institutions throughout the world. Universities, colleges, and high schools are enriching students' chemistry experiences by introducing them to this easy-to-use visualization tool from ACD.

ACD/ChemSketch is the world-renowned chemical structure drawing and visualization application for the Microsoft Windows (95, 98, NT, & 2000) operating system. Educators and students use ACD/ChemSketch to draw and visualize chemical structures, reactions, and schematic diagrams; and to create professional-looking reports and presentations. Educators have been known to use ACD/ChemSketch to create interactive lesson plans, tutorials, exercises, and laboratory manuals; as well as customized submission forms to be used by students in their preparation of laboratory reports.

"Students can benefit from the enhanced learning opportunities that ChemSketch provides," says Dr. Petr Kuzmic from the Chemistry Department at Washington State University, where a campus-wide license of ChemSketch was recently donated and installed.

There are currently over 150,000 copies of freeware ACD/ChemSketch being used throughout the world. Tools in the commercial version that are not available in the freeware version of ACD/ChemSketch include ACD/Tautomers, which gives users the ability to check and generate the most common tautomeric forms of drawn organic structures; and ACD/3D Viewer, which converts two-dimensional structures from ACD/ChemSketch into their three-dimensional counterparts for easy viewing and manipulation.

Leonard Houser, a California high school teacher, stated that he has his students use "ChemSketch rather than models" in their classes, particularly while studying VSEPR, because it allows them "to manipulate and visualize the 3D nature of the structures while using technology to expand those capabilities".

Approximately 30 academic institutions are currently taking advantage of the free campus-wide license of ACD/ChemSketch. Information on how your university, college, or high school can receive a campus-wide donation of ACD/ChemSketch is available at www.acdlabs.com/educators/chsk_licenses.html.
