Toronto, Canada, January 25, 2005 -

Advanced Chemistry Development, Inc., (ACD/Labs) is pleased to announce that the Institute of Organic Chemistry at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, has chosen the superior chemical databasing tool, ACD/ChemFolder, as their first electronic notebook for instructors, researchers, and students.

The Institute licensed ChemFolder through ACD/Labs' Academic Site Licensing program, created in March 2004 to give educational institutions throughout the world the ability to implement industry-standard chemistry software at affordable academic prices. Through the agreement coordinated by CheMicro Research & Development Co., Ltd., the official ACD/Labs Distributor for Hungary, the Institute has also been equipped with a full year of access to ACD/Labs Online (I-Lab), the internet-based service that provides instant access to the latest chemical databases and property prediction programs for NMR spectra, molecular physical properties, and IUPAC- and CAS Index-based systematic nomenclature.

Professor Peter Matyus, Director of the Institute of Organic Chemistry at Semmelweis University, states, "We are satisfied that the user-friendly ACD/ChemFolder software will meet all of our needs as a laboratory notebook. In addition, both research and education will benefit from the added value of having access to databasing and prediction tools through ACD/Labs Online."

Dr. Antal Lopata, Managing Director for CheMicro, adds, "We are happy that we could not only meet the Institute's needs for an electronic notebook, but also provide them with a complete suite of chemical drawing, databasing, naming, and prediction capabilities through ACD/Labs' affordable Academic offering."

Dr. Guy DesMarquets, Director of European Operations for ACD/Labs, furthers, "It brings me great satisfaction to see the academic world adopting our technologies, from drawing and databasing to spectroscopic and physicochemical prediction. I am happy to see this happening at Semmelweis, and I believe this adoption will foster the further use of our software throughout Hungary."

ACD/ChemFolder provides the ability to manage thousands of separate files with chemical structures, reactions, and reports, as well as create and compare databases, predict chemical properties, and group and analyze data using advanced graphical presentation. It contains a powerful search system with an extensive range of both basic and advanced search capabilities for retrieving records by numerous properties and structural attributes, including substructure, structure similarity, stereoisomers, subreactions, and several others.

ACD/Labs' Academic Site Licensing Program includes discounted annual site licenses of their top-of-the-line chemical structure drawing and databasing tools, including ACD/ChemSketch, ACD/ChemFolder, and ACD/Labs Online. Pricing is based on the size of an academic institution, making a site license an affordable option for even the smallest establishment. Further information on Academic pricing can be obtained by emailing education@acdlabs.com.

About Semmelweis University

Semmelweis University was founded as the University of Nagyszombat in 1769, and it was renamed to Semmelweis University in 1969. The University has four faculties including the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, as well as Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Sciences. As a state university, Semmelweis University functions under the auspices of the Ministry of Education. The University is listed in WHO's directory of Medical Schools.

The Institute of Organic Chemistry was founded in 1957. Belonging to the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Institute teaches mainly organic chemistry with particular attention to biochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, and technology. The Institute has a number of cooperations both in research and education with other Hungarian industrial and academic institutions, as well as other universities from abroad.
